Today I changed my habit a bit out of boredom and picked up a new Dictionary of Ancient Thai, named "Ratanamala ...." by Prof. Niyada Laosundhorn for my leisure reading. Actually the dictionary came out almost 2 years ago but I just bought a copy from a bookstore in Bangkok last month. With only 1,000 copies published, I though I was lucky to get one of the few remaining copies. Most of the major bookstores in Bangkok didn't have it any more.

With a pencil on my right hand, I scrutinized each word with its citation of original archaic Thai verses or poems, with my great pleasure and full admiration of the author. I feel thankful to the author for such a great work, out of her love, I think.  I then wrote down my comments and wrote my objections on some of the meanings on the pages, or noted some other words I remembered and though were  similar to some of those vocabularies, etc.  I think I am still a Thai language buff just like when I was a kid some 40 years ago. I hope, after I finish reading it, quite a big IF since the dictionary is around 980 pages, I might send a summary of my opinions to the author. That 's going to be tough since I don't want to give up my annotated copy easily.
